Getting to the Start
You can access Cammo Estate by bicycle, bus, or by car at the end Cammo Road from the A90. There is a free car park on Cammo Walk. (POSTCODE: EH4 8AN)
Highlights
There is a STUNNING arboretum. If you plan a visit in autumn - you won’t be disappointed.
Find “Rapunzel” in her tower
Climb the ruins of Cammo House and its stables
Find tree swings dotted throughout the estate
Cammo House and the Estate is pretty interesting. The house was built back in around 1700 and contained twenty rooms with fires, consisting of four public rooms, smoking room, billiards room, and fourteen bedrooms. There were also bathrooms, laundry, wash-house, kitchen, pantries, larder, two lofts, two cellars, and ample servant’s accommodation. Between 1955 and 1975, the house fell into a state of disrepair. Its as eventually given to the Edinburgh Council in 1970’s.
Sadly, “Rapunzel’s Tower” is only a water tower designed to supply water to the nearby Cammo House. Looks the part though!
Walk Description
From the car park, follow the tree-lined avenue to the ruined stables.
Take this time to turn left and explore “Rapunzel’s Tower” and the man-made hill beside it - for great views of Edinburgh.
Back to the ruined stables (game of hide and seek here?) and go straight on the path (stables on your left). This will take you to the ruined Cammo House.

We took a set of laser guns on this walk. The kids LOVED playing laser guns in the ruins of the old house.
